When something so profound is said often we are interested in who said it.
This is one of my favourite quotes originally by Mahatma Gandhi. Others credited with the same are John F Kennedy and recently Barrack Obama. Plagiarism is the practice of taking someone else’s work or ideas and passing them off as one’s own. Only to those who weren’t aware of the source. When we call upon the wisdom and guidance of those who have gone before us that can give us Referent Power (i.e. through someone’s respect or admiration of another we borrow their credibility and influence).
Apparent Gandhi can not be directly cited for that quote. It is only something that those close to him remember him saying. That said I’ve seen many posters with Gandhi, JFK and Barrack Obama all tagged against the same or similar messaging.
The power of change is in respect for what has happened and the learning it gives us to look ahead.
‘Change will not come if we wait for some other person or some other time. We are the ones we’ve been waiting for. We are the change that we seek.’ … If you’re walking down the right path and you’re willing to keep walking, eventually you’ll make progress.’ Barrack Obama
